Hellsgate, Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island Day Trip

1 Day

The Hell’s Gate National Park is a remarkable quarter of the Great Rift Valley. Named for the intense geothermal activity within its boundaries, its spectacular sceneries including the towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub-clad volcanoes, and belching plumes of geothermal steam make it one of the most atmospheric Parks in Africa. Activities that can be enjoyed here include guided walking safari, mountain biking, rock climbing, and massage therapy in a natural spa.

Hells gate National park is one of the few national parks where hiking is allowed. The day hike offers visitors a chance for game viewing on a bicycle and you can ride around the park surrounded by hordes of wild animals like buffalo, giraffes, zebra, and impala. This park is one of the best hiking places and it’s popular due to its relative proximity to Nairobi.

At Lake Naivasha you’ll appreciate the park’s rich contrast of forest, dormant volcanoes, spectacular gorges and, of course, the mountain lake. After lunch we’ll take a water safari and enjoy views of Hippos and the nearby wildlife grazing at the shore.

The lake and its forests also delight visitors with a rich display of birdlife. Keep an eye out for woodpeckers, cuckoos, shrikes and raptors such as hawks and the African fish eagle. The nearby papyrus swamps host jacanas, herons and kingfishers.

Our final park visit is Crescent Island Sanctuary, a private game sanctuary that boasts more animals per acre than any other park in Kenya, where we’ll take a guided walking safari. You are certain to trek by diverse herds of wildlife – wildebeest, waterbuck, zebra, giraffe and gazelle amongst others.
